Big Band Christmas Ball
Dec. 10: Second-annual holiday party celebrates the ’40s and ’50s with dancing amidst movie set lights and props, sleighs and Christmas trees. There’s also live music from The Hot Tomatoes, guest appearances by “Frank Sinatra and the Andrews Sisters” and reenactments from the classic holiday movie “White Christmas.” At the Boulder Elks Lodge, 3975 28th St. 720-924-1945.
Boulder Shelter Golf Classic
May: Now in its 18th year, this event raises funds for the winter emergency shelter and year-round transitional housing programs. Check the website for May date.
Chocolate Lovers’ Fling
Feb. 11: Chocolate, chocolate, chocolate! Help SPAN, the Safehouse Progressive Alliance for Nonviolence, continue funding their safe shelter, counseling, legal advocacy and other programs for abuse survivors and their children. There’s also lots of food and drink and dancing to live music. At the UCAR Event Center.
DCPA’s Saturday Night Alive
March 3: The Denver Center for the Performing Arts’ signature black-tie fundraiser benefits the Arts in Education programs serving 50,000 children each year. 6pm at the Helen Bonfils Theatre Complex, 14th and Speer streets in Denver. 303-446-4812.
Longmont Humane Society Furry Friends Festival and Ella’s Walk
May 19: Dogs and their people stroll the 3-mile route to benefit LHS, then partake in the pet-friendly activities, food and live music. Check the website for details including time, location and registration.
Our Center: Empty Bowls Dinner
March 10: Empty Bowls is a fundraiser to help feed the hungry in our community. Attendees select a unique, handmade bowl made by a local artist, then choose two types of soup from area restaurants and caterers. All proceeds benefit the food program of Longmont’s Outreach United Resource Center.
Puttin’ on the Leash
April: The Humane Society of Boulder Valley’s signature fundraising event is usually the third weekend in April. It features a silent and live auction, food from local restaurants, and beer and wine.
Special Olympics Colorado Polar Plunge
Feb. 18: Plunge alone or with a group of friends or co-workers at this third-annual event, which raises money for Special Olympics Colorado. Those who are too chicken to test the icy waters of Boulder Reservoir can hang out in the “Chicken Coop.” Spectators are welcome, free of charge; gates open at 11am. There’s a post-plunge party at Lazy Dog Sports Bar.
Taste of Pearl
April 22: Explore Boulder’s culinary arts scene as you stroll downtown Boulder’s most vibrant galleries and retail stores. A portion of proceeds benefits Boulder’s Emergency Family Assistance Association. See www.tasteofpearl.com for info.
Walk on the Wild Side: Walkathon for Conservation
May 19: Two courses around the ponds (1k and 5k) let participants learn about habitats, birds and other wildlife at education stations. There’s also live birds of prey, food and prizes. 8am-noon at Walden Ponds Wildlife Habitat, near Jay Road and N. 75th Street. 970-393-1193.
YWCA of Boulder County: Holidazical
Dec. 4: Family-friendly fundraiser includes lunch, a silent auction with items for all ages, and entertainment by Rebecca Folsom. Proceeds benefit the YWCA of Boulder County. 12:30-2:30pm at Hotel Boulderado, 2115 13th St. 303-443-0419; www.ywcaboulder.org.
Zing for Zonta
Jan. 29: Zonta Foothills Club of Boulder County is dedicated to advancing the status of women and girls locally and worldwide by improving their safety, health and wellness, education, economic stability and legal equality. This fundraiser for the nonprofit group includes a-cappella choir performances, a display of handmade, fair trade arts and crafts items, and a silent auction. At Mt.
