Featuring a variety of North and South Indian dishes, India’s Clay Oven serves authentic, ethnic cuisine for any palate. Dishes are prepared on-site from scratch, and can be made either mild, medium or hot to suit your individual preference. Among the restaurant’s exotic, flavorful dishes is Chicken Ticca, made with fresh ginger and a variety of ground spices and then barbecued on skewers in a charcoal-clay oven. India’s Clay Oven also offers a wide selection of appetizers, seafood, biryani rice dishes, vegetarian options, and lamb entrées, including Boti Masala, delectable lamb pieces broiled in a tandoor clay oven and cooked in a spiced cream sauce. To get the full experience, make sure to order one of the many roti, or traditional Indian breads, freshly baked in an authentic tandoor oven. Lunch buffet is offered Mon-Fri 11am-2:30pm, Sat noon-2:30pm. Open daily for dinner 5pm-10pm.

A family-owned Nederland original since 1999, Kathmandu, located just west of the visitor center, serves healthy, authentic Nepali and Indian cuisine. Everything is made in-house from scratch and there are many vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options available. For a real treat, order a delicious, homemade chai tea, served hot or cold. The lunch buffet, served daily from 11am-3pm, is a perfect choice after a hike or mountain bike ride in the nearby Indian Peaks. The full menu is served all day and Kathmandu features a full bar with 10 beers on tap, including imports from China and India as well as local microbrews. Also, order from an extensive wine list or try a homemade mango Margarita. Enjoy the beauty of the Indian Peaks from the outdoor patio while dining on traditional ethnic cuisine. Wifi is available, and make sure to visit the gift shop next door, which sells imported clothes, hats, jackets, jewelry, home decor and more. Also, make reservations to hold your next party at Kathmandu. Open daily 11am-9pm and until 10pm Fri-Sat. VISA, MC, DISC and checks accepted.

Just one block south of Pearl Street Mall, Sherpa’s offers fantastic Himalayan dishes in an intriguing atmosphere that includes climbing memorabilia, a library of adventure and travel books, and one of Boulder’s best patios with Flatirons views. Named “Best Nepali/Tibetan/Indian Restaurant” by Boulder’s top two newspapers, Sherpa’s has become a local favorite. The varied menu features a selection of Indian curries cooked to order, breads and meats from the tandoor oven, momos (handmade vegetable- or meat-filled Tibetan dumplings), saag and other regional favorites. All ­dishes are made fresh to order. For the less adventurous, Sherpa’s offers more traditional items, such as a tandoori chicken sandwich and a kids’ menu. Open daily for lunch 11am-3pm; dinner 5-9:30pm Mon-Thurs and 5-10pm Fri-Sat 5-10. Checks and all major credit cards accepted.

Tandoori offers a casual dining experience featuring fine East Indian cuisine. For an appetizer, choose a vegetable samosa, a crispy pastry filled with a potato-and-pea mixture; vegetable pakoras, deep-fried vegetables in chickpea batter; dal (lentil) soup; or keema nanna, bread stuffed with spicy ground lamb. Dinner entrées include chicken masala—grilled chicken in a rich, creamy tomato gravy; and bengan bartha—roasted eggplant cooked with onions, tomatoes, herbs and spices. For a scrumptious finish, try kheer (Indian-style rice pudding with saffron and pistachios), mango custard or pistachio ice cream.
