Though Colorado’s race circuit is pretty quiet in the winter, it really starts to heat up when the weather turns warmer. Here’s a sampling of some of the most popular events enjoyed by Boulder County residents. Many of these races sell out early, so be sure to register far in advance.


Dec. 3: The ColderBOLDER 5k on the CU campus awards “Cold Medal” penguin trophies to top finishers. www.bolderboulder.com.

Dec. 4: The Rudolph Ramble 5k race is part of the RunDenver Series. www.rundenverseries.com.

Dec. 10: The Dasher Holiday 5k in Estes Park also includes a kids’ fun run. www.visitestespark.com.

Dec. 11: Superior Stocking Run 5k is fun, festive and family-friendly, with jingling bracelets and hot chocolate waiting at the finish line. Register at www.racingunderground.com.

Dec. 31: New Year’s Eve Resolution 5k, Denver’s oldest New Year’s Eve run, is an early-evening race in Denver’s Washington Park. Register at www.resolution5k.com.

Jan. 14: Quicker Quaker 5k Walk/Run is held each year in conjunction with Lafayette’s popular Quaker Oatmeal Festival. 7:30am in Lafayette; registration info at www.lafayettecolorado.com.

March 11: The Erin Go Braugh 7.77k Run in Westminster benefits Growing Home, a nonprofit that provides support to local families. Register at www.eringobraughrun.com.

April-May, TBA: Dash & Dine 5k Series is a series of Bolder Boulder qualifying races, held on select weeknights at Boulder Reservoir. Register at www.dashndine5k.com.

May 6: Annual race at the Boulder Reservoir raises funds for the Second Wind Fund, which provides free counseling to youth at risk of suicide. Info: www.swfbc.org

May 29: The BolderBOULDER 10k draws thousands of people to town to run or walk the course, or to cheer on participants along the route or in Folsom Field. The huge race is separated into waves so everyone can run or walk at their own pace. Memorial Day events follow the professional racers. www.bolderboulder.com.
