Boulder Polar Plunge benefits chemo patients

Most everyone here is familiar with the Boulder Polar Plunge. You know, that spine-tingling jump into Boulder Reservoir on New Year’s Day.It certainly raises the hair on your head when those icy waters touch your skin. But did you know every plunge also helps put hair on the heads of chemo patients?

The American Cancer Society hosts the 2017 plunge, which helps fund free services to cancer patients, on Jan. 7 at noon at the Boulder Rez. And the new date enables participants to avoid holiday conflicts.

A few ACS free services in our community include the wig room at the Rocky Mountain Cancer Center, which gives wigs and head coverings to patients undergoing hair loss; the Look Good Feel Better workshops at the Tebo Family Medical Pavilion that help women manage appearance-related side effects; and the Road to Recovery, which provides transportation to and from treatments and related appointments. The ACS also funds $2.8 million in cancer research at the University of Colorado, Boulder.

So just tell yourself you’re bettering people’s lives when those frigid waters make you gasp! For more info and to register, visit www.boulderpolarplunge.org.
