The Shortlist: 5/12-5/14

This weekend is all about sunshine! We are putting all of that cold and damp springtime weather behind us and focusing on those 300 days of sunshine that Colorado is known for. This is the time to enjoy the ephemeral blossoms of mid-May before the tough summer heat kicks in. This weekend we are going to get outside, take a deep breath, and remember why we LOVE Boulder so much! Here are a few things Boulder has in store for us this weekend:

  1. Frühlingsfest 2016

Are you a fan of all the beer-drinking and merrymaking of Oktoberfest? Fortunately Frühlingsfest, or “May Day festivities,” is the springtime version! Now that the hail and clouds are behind us, head down to Samples World Bistro in Longmont this weekend to kick-off the season opening of their rooftop patio. The rooftop, which has been named one of the 10 best rooftop spaces in Colorado, will have 20 seasonal craft brews on tap accompanied by a special Frühlingsfest menu. A portion of the sales will be donated to Arts Longmont. For location and times click here.

  2. Fitness in the Flatirons

Saturday morning at 8:15 you can work off those May Day festivities at Fitness in the Flatirons. Each second Saturday of the month from April to October is Fitness For Living‘s ‘Fitness in the Flatirons’ drop-in bootcamp class. The hour and fifteen-minute class will be lead by Lauren Pierpoint at Chautauqua Park. Be ready to sweat out all of this weekends toxins in this high intensity class, which includes a jog up the Flatirons with intervals of strength and cardio exercises. Using trees, rocks, and steps as your equipment, the course will fully immerse you in your surroundings. A $12 fee and online registration are required beforehand. Click here for more information!

  3. Growing Gardens’ Plant Sale

This Saturday and Sunday Growing Gardens Boulder will be hosting their 16th annual Community Plant Sale. Their greenhouse on Hawthorn Ave will have a vibrant assortment of Boulder grown produce and herbs for sale to the public. The sale will include a large variety of greens, herbs, peas and beans, brassicas, peppers, pumpkins, flowers, berries, and their famous heirloom tomatoes. Growing Gardens is a non-profit organization based out of Boulder which works to foster community through urban agriculture. All of the proceeds from the event will go towards the Growing Gardens programs. For more information, click here.
