Through Aug. 22: Reminiscent of an old-fashioned circus sideshow, a new traveling exhibit called Dr. Entomo’s Palace of Exotic Wonders explores the truths, myths and mysteries of the bewildering and often freakish invertebrate world. COLORADO REPTILE HUMANE SOCIETY Want to foster or adopt a reptile? CoRHS teaches visitors about native Colorado reptiles, gives info about reptiles as pets, and cares for homeless ones at its shelter, 13941 Elmore Road in Longmont. Monthly workshops and special events teach safe handling methods, proper feeding, and identification of common health issues. 303-776-2070. The Denver Zoo’s first resident, in 1896, was a small orphaned black bear named Billy Bryan. Today, the zoo, at 2300 Steele St., is home to more than 3,500 different animals representing 650 speciesnearly 200 of which are threatened or endangered. Dog Days of Summer Aug. 15-Sept. 6: Got a hot dog? Pups love to cool off at these end-of-summer rituals, held at local swimming pools before they’re drained for the season. Scott Carpenter Pool, at 30th Street and Arapahoe Avenue, offers several sessions and even sells pooches their own season pass.
Humane Society of Boulder Valley The shelter cares for more than 80,000 animals each year, and nearly 90 percent are successfully adopted or reunited with their families. The society also offers specialized classes for dogs, trains volunteers to work with the animals, runs camps for kids, and arranges unique birthday parties. 2323 55th St. 303-442-4030. July 18 & Aug. 15: Enjoy a refreshing Left Hand brew and a delicious brat while volunteers suds up your dog during Bubbly at the Brewery, a fundraiser for LHS.
