ARGENTINE TANGO/DANCE OF THE HEART

BOULDER COMMUNITY DANCE

This nonprofit organization sponsors energetic old-time community dances the second and fourth Saturdays of each month at Avalon Ballroom, 6185 Arapahoe Ave. Dances are primarily contradances, plus some circle dances and waltzes, and are accompanied by live music. Try a free lesson at 7:15 pm; then dance from 8-11 pm. The group welcomes all comers, and you don’t need to bring a partner. 303-592-3972.

BOULDER INTERNATIONAL FOLK DANCERS

Kick up your heels with recreational folk dancing from around the world. Lessons from 7:30-8:30 pm are followed by open dancing until 11 pm. Everyone is welcome—no experience or partner necessary—and your first visit is free. BIFD meets at Pearl Street Studio, 2126 Pearl St.

LYONS OLD-TIME COMMUNITY DANCES

Old-time stringbands and callers lead circles, squares and reels at these local dances. Beginning clogging workshops are offered an hour before each dance. Check the website for Fall 2007 dances at Odd Fellows Hall, just north of 4th and Main streets in Lyons, from 7-10pm. 303-823-0816.

POSTOLEY DANCE ENSEMBLE

Learn folk dances from around the world on Tuesday evenings June 3-Sept. 9. These outdoor events feature guests artists from the Ukraine, Israeli Dancers, Scandinavian Dancers and more. Teaching runs 7-8pm, and dancing until 10pm, on the Boulder Municipal Plaza, 13th Street between Canyon and Arapahoe. Special folk dance instruction for children is offered June 10 & 24 and July 8 & 22 from 6:15-7pm. 303-449-6363.

RED ROCK RAMBLERS SATURDAY SQUARE DANCES

For 48 years, the best callers and cuers have visited the small foothills town of Lyons to have a good time Saturday nights from June-September. Come to Lyons Elementary School Gym, Fourth and Stickney streets, for rounds at 7:45 pm; squares start at 8:15 pm. 303-823-6692.

RHYTHMIC RITES SACRED DANCE JOURNEY

On the second Sunday of each month, Immersive Arts Studio hosts Rhythmic Rites, a sacred dance journey for all ages. Different artists are featured each month, and participants are encouraged to stay for the entire session. 2-6pm at Immersive Arts Studio, 3063 Sterling Circle.

SOLSTICE INSTITUTE DANCES

It’s not a sock hop—it’s a barefoot hop. Dance to hip-hop, funk, tribal, trance and world music at the Solstice Institute, 302 Pearl St., in a non-alcoholic, family-friendly atmosphere. Dances are Tuesdays from 8-11:30pm and Fridays from 9pm to midnight. Substantial discount if you dance for the last hour only.
