SUICIDE LIES – Written by Karon Majeel; Directed by Hugo Jon Sayles. Produced by The SOURCE Theatre Company (Presented at Su Teatro, 721 Santa Fe Drive, Denver) through September 7. Tickets available at 720-375-0115 or

Suicide lies – it tells you lies, it lies in wait for your weakest moments, it lies dormant in your heart to attack when you least suspect. It can take many forms – the so-called best friend, the inner voice, the well-meaning but unhelpful counselor, the sleep that won’t come. Three tales of potential suicide are told in this evening at The SOURCE. Tales of friends, roommates, relatives who try to overcome personal despair or help someone else see that what they are contemplating is a permanent solution to a temporary problem.

In this production, the character of suicide (Maria Ibederci Rodriguez) takes on the guise of a younger sister or an unborn child to lull the unsuspecting mourner into joining them. “Sisters should be together.” The evening is led by the Narrator (Rav’n Moon) who uses a stand up comic type of opening to get the audience in the mood to hear their stories. The cast of nine women work out the solutions for three of their number who have touched bottom and have no where to go but up.

As in their partner theatre at Su Teatro, the emphasis is on the story, not the technical prowess. Both theatres thrive on powerful stories and this is no exception. One more weekend to catch this show!!
